This ancient land deep in the heart of South West France in the Aquitaine with a perfectly balanced weather (more than 2.000 hours of sun, never too hot, nature green like emeralds, marbled by sapphire blue streams bordered with Mill races, never too much rain, but always enough), is a magic place of pre-history, the lost paradise.

Early man has left the region with some of Europe’s earliest art treasures, the 20.000-year-old cave paintings of Lascaux near Montignac, Font de Gaume near Les Eyzies and many others. Spectacular caverns such as the Gouffre de Proumeyssac and the Grotte du Grand Roc contain stunning natural rock formations formed over millions of years in a seemingly infinite variety.

The Perigord ( French name for the Dordogne since Medieval times) has been under English rule in the Middle ages and was the cradle of the Hundred Years’ War. Legacies of this era exist everywhere :Vast fortified churches, over 1000 castles, chateaux, manoirs; the fortified towns called Bastides (Monpazier, Belvès) built on the French and English front lines.
The traditional rural architecture with ancient doorways and arches, Shepard’s Huts has created charming honey coloured villages encompassed by the rolling green countryside in the black Perigord, where truffles (tuber melanosporum) and Goose Liver come from, rose and grey sprinkled granite built hamlets in the Northern and Eastern part of the White and Green Perigord with woodlands and forests, White stone-built vine chateaux in the Purple Perigord in the vineyards towards West and South. For physical activities, Leisure and Sports as tennis, golf, horse riding, fishing, canoeing, walking, climbing, speleology facilities are abundant.

For swimmers the ponds, lakes, rivers and streams offer safe and clean beaches The four Perigords with their famous towns, Sarlat, a medieval treasure and tourist centre; Perigueux, a thriving and sophisticated city, the Prefecture; Bergerac, shippers of wine since the Middle Ages with it’s growing airport; Nontron and Riberac in the North.
